Unlocking the Whole Potential of Breath
Breathwork is an active practice of consciously manipulating the breath to stimulate the body’s natural self-regulating ability. Breathing techniques can promote relaxation, release stress, and cultivate emotional balance.
Understanding the Science Behind Breathwork
Breathwork influences the autonomic nervous system, which is part of the central nervous system that controls our body’s automatic functions. By modulating the activity of the two branches, sympathetic (responsible for fight/flight) and parasympathetic (responsible for rest/digestion), breathwork promotes a state of calm and balance, which is essential for managing stress and enhancing overall health.
Exploring the Ancient Roots of Breathwork
Breathwork has ancient origins that are deeply rooted in various spiritual and healing traditions dating back at least 6000 years. Across cultures and beliefs, the breath symbolizes life itself—a reminder of our interconnectedness and shared human experience.

Did you know that breathwork can positively impact heart health and strengthen bi-directional communication with the brain? By enhancing heart rate variability (HRV), breathwork strengthens the heart’s resilience and adaptive capacity, promoting cardiovascular health and overall vitality. When we’re in a coherent and calm place, the information from our heart to our brain informs us that we’re safe and secure, allowing us to access different parts of our brain that are connected to creativity and innovation.
Building Emotional Resilience
Emotional resilience is our ability to bounce back from stress and adversity. Breathwork offers powerful techniques for managing emotions and cultivating inner stability, empowering individuals to navigate life’s challenges with grace and resilience. Regarding team resilience, being in sync and working coherently towards common goals is paramount for long-term success.
Integrating Breathwork into Daily Life
Incorporating breathwork into your daily routine is easier than you think. With simple techniques like slow diaphragmatic (stomach) breathing and coherence breathing (slowing down the heart and breathing slower and deeper than usual), you can experience the benefits of breathwork anytime, anywhere. Our clients find our training especially effective for managing emotions and stress before or after meetings or staying calm in difficult conversations.
Measuring the Impact
Assessing the effectiveness of breathwork involves measuring key performance indicators such as heart rate variability, which measures the moment-to-moment variations of the heartbeat and gives an accurate window into our body’s stress load. Different wearable technologies, such as the WOOP, Oura, and Apple Watch, track HRV. A helpful tip for measuring HRV is to take an average over a three-week period as you’re developing your breath practice. With consistent practice and patience, you can unlock the whole potential of breathwork in your life.
